A Dance Through History combines Mike Ruff’s work on teaching aspects of historical dance, giving talks on the development of English Country Dance, his workshops for dance groups, festivals and overseas visitors and his work as a performer and musician.
The original idea for the book arose from a series of talks, workshops and school events around 10 years ago but books can take a while! These events included:
-
A talk at the British Schools Museum with Ann Wise leading to many others
-
A workshop series at Cambridge Museum of Technology with Pam Halls and Ann Wise as well as various dance clubs and 7 years of classes for the English Folk Dance and Song Society
-
A Half Term History Project with a Year 9 students at a local Academy with Pat Simpson which ran for 3 years
Since then there have been:
-
Regency Garden Parties at The Swiss Garden near Biggleswade
-
Events at Strumpshaw Tree Fair with Norwich Historical Dancers
-
A Talk at Abbots Langley Library
